Elaha Soroor

The BBC has revealed its list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2024 and Elaha Soroor the Afghan Hazara Singer and composer was one of them! Hazara music interpretation with Elaha Soroor, as Roots Revival Series 6, live performance at Odeon Theater in Vienna, 2nd May 2024 has broken the highest score among the Afghanistan’s artist.

Elaha Soroor stood at the edge of silence, a silence that had swallowed the voices of countless women in Afghanistan. But she refused to let it consume her. With a melody that carried the weight of resilience, she crafted Naan, Kar, Azadi!—a song that spoke of bread, work, and freedom. Each note was a rebellion, each lyric a defiance against the forces trying to erase women from public life. Through her anthem, Soroor became a beacon of hope, reminding the world that even in the darkest times, the human spirit can rise and sing.

The song made its debut in October during the groundbreaking All Afghan Women Summit held in Albania, marking a significant moment in the ongoing struggle for women’s rights in Afghanistan.

Elaha Soroor, an award-winning artist with a diverse career spanning film, theater, and music, has consistently leveraged her platform to advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women. A member of the Hazara ethnic minority, Soroor first gained recognition after appearing on the popular talent show Afghan Star in 2009.
